The Sharjah Foundation to Support Pioneering Entrepreneurs (RUWAD), part of the Sharjah Economic Development Department, has released its 2024 annual report. It highlighted the funding of 13 projects worth AED2.86 million and the addition of 449 new projects to its membership network.
This announcement coincides with RUWAD’s 20th anniversary. Since 2005, the foundation has played a key role in strengthening Sharjah’s entrepreneurial landscape. It was launched by a decree from His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
Supporting Local Entrepreneurs with Targeted Programmes
Hamad Ali Abdullah Al Mahmoud, Chairman of the Sharjah Economic Development Department, said RUWAD created a strong early model for supporting entrepreneurs. He noted the foundation has empowered thousands of Emiratis by fostering innovation and business growth.
Acting Director Fatima Al Ali reaffirmed RUWAD’s commitment to strengthening the local entrepreneurial environment. She said the foundation will continue working towards long-term success for its members.
In 2024, RUWAD delivered 57 training programmes, benefiting 1,414 trainees. It also provided 118 advisory consultations. Additionally, 81 projects received government fee exemptions, amounting to AED8.727 million. Government purchases from RUWAD members totalled AED3.485 million.
Building Networks and Encouraging Collaboration
Amina Mohammed, Director of the Training, Research and Events Department, stressed RUWAD’s role as a connector. In 2024, the foundation facilitated 22 business matchmaking deals and hosted 17 meetings with development partners. It also participated in 10 external exhibitions and events to support project visibility.
Internally, RUWAD achieved an Emiratisation rate of 97 percent and a job satisfaction score of 88 percent. These figures reflect the organisation’s ongoing focus on national workforce development and internal growth.
As RUWAD enters its third decade, it remains committed to expanding opportunity, deepening partnerships, and strengthening Sharjah’s position as a centre for entrepreneurship.
