Red Sea Global Hotels in Saudi Arabia, a prominent tourism development company, has recently completed the installation of 750,000 solar panels and five solar stations to power its major Red Sea Project. This ambitious initiative aims to create a fully sustainable tourism destination, with 16 hotels, retail and entertainment venues, and supporting infrastructure facilities all running on renewable energy.
John Pagano, the CEO of Red Sea Global Hotels in Saudi Arabia expressed the company’s commitment to adopting a different approach in its operations and projects. The successful installation of electroluminescent panels at the solar stations marks a significant milestone for the first phase of the Red Sea Project. This development not only makes it the largest tourism destination powered by renewable energy but also the first of its kind worldwide.
Among the notable locations powered by solar energy are the Six Senses Southern Dunes, the Red Sea Resort and Spa, the Desert Rock Mountain resort, the Sheybarah Resort on Sheybarah Island, and the Turtle Bay Village with its 15 beach villas. The company has also initiated the construction of the world’s largest battery storage facility, with a capacity of 1,200MWh, ensuring complete grid independence for the mega tourism project.
In line with their commitment to sustainability and contributing to the Saudi Vision 2030 goals, Red Sea Global has made a remarkable stride in reducing carbon emissions by fully powering all vehicles transporting visitors with solar energy. This includes transportation to and from the Red Sea International Airport and movement within the project sites and nearby islands.
The successful implementation of this extensive solar power infrastructure and the commitment to sustainable practices solidify Red Sea Global’s position as a leading player in the tourism and renewable energy sectors in Saudi Arabia.
