The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) has officially announced its intention to host the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
According to a statement on its official website, the QOC is currently engaged in ongoing dialogue with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as part of the ongoing host city selection process.
Ahead of the FIFA World Cup, Qatar built seven state-of-the-art stadiums, with the tournament shifted from summer to winter to mitigate the risks posed by the country’s intense heat for both fans and athletes.
Should Qatar’s bid prove successful, Doha would become the first city in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to host the Olympic Games. The nation previously submitted unsuccessful bids for the 2016 and 2020 editions, largely due to concerns regarding its infrastructure readiness for such a global event.
Other countries that have formally declared their bids for the 2036 Games include Nusantara (Indonesia), Istanbul (Turkey), Ahmedabad (India), and Santiago (Chile).
The 2028 Olympics will be held in Los Angeles, USA, shortly after the country co-hosts the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Canada and Mexico. The Games will then head to Brisbane, Australia, in 2032, marking a shift to the southern hemisphere.
