In a relief move for households, Oman will reduce residential electricity bills during the peak summer months from May to August 2025. The Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR) confirmed that the reductions will apply to basic account holders and are intended to ease financial pressure amid high seasonal electricity use.
Discounts Begin in May and Rise Through August
The new plan introduces tier-based discounts for electricity consumption starting in May. Consumers in the first tier (0–4,000 kWh) will receive a 15% discount. Those in the second tier (4,001–6,000 kWh) will see a 10% cut, while the third tier (above 6,001 kWh) will benefit from a 5% reduction.
These discounts will increase as the summer progresses. During June, July, and August, the reductions will rise to:
- 20% for the first tier
- 15% for the second tier
- 10% for the third tier
Notably, the electricity pricing tiers for 2025 will remain unchanged, preserving affordability without altering the existing structure.
No Service Disruptions or Price Hikes for 2025
To further support consumers, APSR has instructed licensed utility companies not to cut electricity services for basic residential accounts during the summer. Additionally, customers will have the option to defer their electricity bill payments, in line with the regulatory framework approved by the authority.
The authorities designed these measures to ensure service continuity and uphold consumer rights during a period of high demand and intense heat.
The APSR is also encouraging eligible residents to register for the National Subsidy System to take full advantage of all incentives and easing mechanisms available. This system supports those who meet income and residency criteria by providing additional utility bill relief.
