South Africa’s suspects Gupta brothers arrested by Dubai Police
After receiving a red notice from Interpol, the Gupta brothers, who are among South Africa’s most wanted suspects linked to money laundering and criminal activities, were arrested by Dubai Police.
The South African government announced that law enforcement authorities in the UAE had arrested Rajesh and Atul Gupta of the Gupta family, who are allegedly linked to former President Jacob Zuma in connection with financial wrongdoing.
UAE public spending climbs to $3 billion in the first three months of 2022
The UAE government has made revenue of 11.33 billion dirhams ($3.08 billion) during the first quarter of this year, the latest data from the Ministry of Finance revealed. This is against a slightly higher expenditure of 11.35 billion dirhams that the federal government made during the period, with the public service sector leading the spending with 2.43 billion dirhams, which is 21.4 percent of total spending, Emirates News Agency reported.
Masdar to build 4,000M of renewable energy capacity in Azerbaijan
Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s alt-energy powerhouse, will develop 4,000 megawatts of clean and renewable energy capacity in Azerbaijan. This is through an exclusive concession from the Central Asian republic, and with the additional rights to develop a further 6,000MW in a second phase. There are two implementation agreements, one relating to the development of onshore wind projects with a capacity of 1,000 MW, and 1,000 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) projects. The second agreement covers integrated offshore wind and green hydrogen projects with a capacity of 2,000 MW.
India and UAE to cooperate on industries and advanced tech
India and the UAE are expected to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) soon to strengthen bilateral cooperation in industries and advanced technologies. The proposal for the MoU was approved by the Indian cabinet. According to an official statement, the MoU between the two countries seeks mutually beneficial cooperation in the areas of strengthening industry supply chain resilience, renewable and energy efficiency, health and life sciences, space systems, artificial intelligence, industry 4.0 enabling technologies and standardization, metrology, conformity assessment, accreditation, and Halal certification.
