Nakheel, part of Dubai Holding’s esteemed real estate division, has announced a strategic partnership with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) to construct two substations at Palm Jebel Ali, valued at AED 270 million. This initiative aims to bolster the power supply for significant portions of the Palm Jebel Ali development and is set to align with the rollout of luxury villas within the project.
The undertaking encompasses the creation of two 132/11 KV substations, boasting a total power capacity of 400 megavolt amperes (MVA). These substations will play a crucial role in meeting the energy demands of a substantial area of Palm Jebel Ali, including various fronds and the central spine. This announcement follows earlier contracts awarded for villa construction and other infrastructural developments on Palm Jebel Ali.
Palm Jebel Ali, envisioned as one of Nakheel’s most ambitious projects, aims to set a new standard in waterfront living. Upon completion, it will provide a wide range of lifestyle amenities, greatly contributing to Dubai’s growth trajectory over the coming decades. The project was unveiled by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, marking the start of a new growth phase for the Jebel Ali region.
Nasser Al Awadhi, Chief Land Estates Officer of Dubai Holding, commented: “We are confident that the expertise and skills of DEWA, our strategic partner, in the sector will enable us to lay a strong foundation as the prestigious Palm Jebel Ali takes shape. It is a symbol of Dubai’s unwavering ambition to always drive progress and leave an indelible mark on the global stage. Palm Jebel Ali is a testimony to our vision to build the best luxury waterfront living for today’s global citizen.”
Hussain Lootah, Executive Vice President of Transmission Power at DEWA, remarked: “We welcome the efforts of Dubai Holding Real Estate, DEWA’s strategic partner, to build the two power transmission stations in the Palm Jebel Ali project according to the highest standards of quality, sustainability and safety, using the latest digital technologies for transmission stations. All organisations in Dubai integrate their efforts to make Dubai the world’s best city for living, working, and visiting. To keep up with Dubai’s continuous growth, we will persist in building a world-class infrastructure for electricity and water, ensuring that these services meet the highest standards of availability, reliability and quality. This has played a significant role in achieving 100% reliability and availability of the power transmission system in Dubai, enabling DEWA to achieve the best performance among service institutions worldwide in the field of power transmission.”
The announcement of this collaboration marks a significant milestone in the transformation of Palm Jebel Ali into a premier residential and leisure destination. Spanning 13.4 kilometres, the development will feature seven islands, 16 fronds, and over 90 kilometres of beachfront, exemplifying the emirate’s expansion in accordance with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and the Dubai Economic Agenda D33. Designed to foster pedestrian-friendly neighbourhoods, Palm Jebel Ali will offer panoramic views of the Arabian Gulf and a wealth of recreational spaces, catering to a variety of lifestyles and interests while emphasizing smart city innovations and sustainability.
Nakheel’s initiatives form a distinguished portfolio of master-planned communities and developments that are essential to achieving Dubai’s visionary aspirations.
