Microsoft revealed an all-digital version of its Xbox Series X and S consoles and trailers for over a dozen games, including the next “Call of Duty” instalment, at its annual Xbox Games Showcase.
Microsoft presented three gaming consoles, featuring a disc-less version of the Xbox Series X and S, along with a special edition of the Series X equipped with 2 terabytes of storage.
According to Reuters, the Xbox Games Showcase, held on Sunday, is timely for Xbox and Microsoft as the gaming industry experiences a downturn, with publishers facing weaker sales, layoffs, and studio closures.
The hardware update could assist Xbox in increasing console sales, in competition with Sony’s PlayStation 5.
The games on display included “Doom: The Dark Ages”, the latest in the long-running “Doom” series, and a preview of the new “Gears of War” title, ending a five-year wait for one of Xbox’s most popular franchises.
A significant number of games, including the new “Doom” and “Call of Duty”, will be available on Xbox Game Pass from their launch date, demonstrating Microsoft’s commitment to the subscription service as it seeks to attract consumers in a relatively weaker economy.
