The UAE has become the first nation outside the United States to introduce Mastercard’s Agent Pay, reinforcing its reputation as a global leader in AI adoption and next-generation digital payments.
The pilot, launched in partnership with Majid Al Futtaim and fintech firm Dataiera, represents a major step forward in bringing AI-driven “agentic commerce” directly to consumers across the UAE.
The unveiling event was attended by Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications; Mastercard CEO Michael Miebach; and Ahmed Galal Ismail, CEO of Majid Al Futtaim Holding.
Once fully rolled out, UAE cardholders will be able to use AI agents to search, explore, and complete transactions through Mastercard Agent Pay — including tasks such as booking cinema tickets at VOX Cinemas — marking the start of a new era in customised, AI-enabled payments.
Omar Sultan Al Olama said the UAE, guided by its leadership, has established itself as a global hub for advanced technologies and initiatives designed to elevate well-being, competitiveness, and international stature.
He added that the country has set a new worldwide benchmark for leveraging artificial intelligence to simplify daily life while enhancing the efficiency and reliability of digital interactions.
He highlighted that the arrival of AI agents in payment solutions is a key milestone, opening up new pathways for the growth and expansion of the UAE’s digital economy.
Dimitrios Dosis, President for Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa at Mastercard, noted that as AI becomes a trusted element of people’s digital lives, payment systems must advance to match that intelligence with strong ethical foundations.
Mastercard Agent Pay is built to ensure that agentic commerce operates on transparency, user consent, and security, enabling both individuals and businesses to navigate this new landscape confidently.
