An agreement for a new warehouse and distribution (W&D) facility has been inked between Dubai South and Maersk Kanoo UAE, an integrated logistics firm.
According to Maersk, the facility known as the “Maersk Integrated Logistics Centre DWC” in the Dubai South Logistics District has a capacity of 15,000 pallet positions and 10,000 bin locations. It also functions as a fulfillment centre.
With the addition of the second fulfillment centre, Maersk will more than double its overall footprint in the UAE after opening the first W&D facility at Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA) in March.
“At Maersk, we are in continual contact with our customers to understand their logistics requirements and supply chain pain spots,” said Christopher Cook, managing director of Maersk UAE. “After carefully weighing our options, we decided on Dubai South for our new fulfillment centre due to its strategic proximity to both the mainline port and hub of Jabal Ali and Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC). This will enable us to expand on our air-sea hub activity, which has grown in importance while striking the ideal speed-cost balance with a tonne of flexibility.
With the new centre, Maersk will more than double its overall footprint in the UAE after opening the first W&D facility in Dubai at JAFZA earlier this year. According to Christopher Cook, Managing Director, Maersk UAE, “At Maersk, we are in continual contact with our customers to understand their logistical requirements and supply chain pain points.” “Our customers have valued having a single point of contact for all of their logistical needs thanks to our integrated solutions. “After carefully weighing our options, we decided on Dubai South for our new fulfillment centre due to its strategic proximity to both the mainline port and hub of Jabal Ali and Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC).
