Despite issues with the world’s supply chains, Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) had a 19% increase in commerce in 2021.
According to a statement released on Wednesday, the flagship free zone affiliate of international port operator DP World produced over AED454.7 billion ($123.8 billion) in commerce last year, up from AED382.8 billion the year before.
During the same time period, there were also 18.6% more new businesses established in the free zone, increasing the total to over 9,000.
Abdulla bin Damithan, CEO and Managing Director of DP World UAE and Jafza, declared that they are pleased with the results throughout the years, particularly after 2020, when the COVID-19 epidemic upended and altered international supply networks.
Damithan stated that “even though the pandemic affected trade activities, we succeeded in ensuring business continuity for our clients.” He said that their expenditures in cutting-edge infrastructure and technology had made the zone’s activities run smoothly.
In order to ensure smooth freight flows, “we will continue investing in digital platforms alongside our partners,” he declared.
