India has introduced an “Alliance for Global Good, Gender Equity, and Equality,” with the Ministry of Women and Child Development leading this Global Alliance.
The initiative stems from the concluding Declaration of the Group of Twenty (G20) meeting in September, reflecting India’s steadfast commitment to women-led development. The launch was revealed at the recent annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.
Global Alliance: Uniting for Women’s Health, Education, and Enterprise Investment
The newly established Alliance aims to unite global best practices, facilitate knowledge sharing, and attract investments in key areas such as women’s health, education, and enterprise.
It intends to advance the G20’s commitments for the broader global community, building on the activities of its Engagement Group and initiatives under the G20 framework, including Business 20, Women 20, and G20 EMPOWER.
Before the launch, India’s Minister of Women and Child Development and Minority Affairs, Smriti Zubin Irani, engaged with leaders at the WEF, including Bahrain’s Minister for Sustainable Development Noor bint Ali Alkhulaif. Irani led the Indian delegation at this year’s WEF, according to WAM.
The Alliance has garnered support from prominent global conglomerates, with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the WEF serving as its “Network Partner.” Invest India, the National Investment Promotion and Facilitation Agency of the Indian government, will act as the Alliance’s “Institutional Partner.”
