The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched the X-ray Polarimeter Satellite (XPOSat) on Monday using the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle PSLV-C58.
As per the Indian News Agency (ANI), XPOSat marks India’s inaugural dedicated polarimetry mission, aimed at investigating diverse dynamics of bright astronomical X-ray sources under extreme conditions.
The PSLV-C58 mission’s goal involves measuring the polarisation of X-rays within the energy band of 8-30 keV originating from approximately 50 potential cosmic sources.
This mission is designed for conducting prolonged spectral and temporal studies of cosmic X-ray sources.
The X-ray polarisation serves as a vital diagnostic tool for scrutinising the radiation mechanism and geometry of celestial sources, according to WAM.
