UAE residents have been urged to remain indoors as heavy rains inundated streets and led to the collapse of a couple of roads.
The National Emergency, Crisis, and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) advised residents to venture out of their homes only in “cases of extreme necessity.”
The authority also recommended drivers to park their vehicles in “remote, secure, and elevated areas away from flood-prone zones.”
Schools swiftly transitioned to online learning, and all government employees were instructed to work remotely on Tuesday and Wednesday, as the meteorological office cautioned about volatile weather conditions set to intensify in two phases today. Numerous vehicles have stalled as drivers attempted to navigate waterlogged roads. Lightning and thunder reverberated across the skies, while large hailstones shattered vehicle windscreens in some regions. Some residents have also reported power outages.
This marks the second stay-at-home advisory issued by authorities in two months. In March, residents were instructed to remain indoors as unsettled weather prompted the closure of roads leading to valleys and mountains.
