Ras Al Khaimah International Airport (RKT) celebrated a significant milestone on 7th October 2024 with the arrival of Fly Vaayu’s inaugural flight from China. The Airbus A320, registered as A6-RMA in the United Arab Emirates, will operate as Fly Vaayu’s hub at RKT, a key link connecting Asia, Africa, and Europe.
This initiative showcases Fly Vaayu’s commitment to innovative solutions in the aviation sector. Notably, this aircraft is the third Airbus A320 globally converted into a freighter (A320P2F) and received a ceremonial water salute upon its arrival.
Engr. Sheikh Salem bin Sultan Al-Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Civil Aviation in Ras Al Khaimah (RAKDCA) and the Ras Al Khaimah International Airport Authority, welcomed the aircraft alongside Syed Muhammed Raziff Aljunied, Consul General of Singapore, Boon Keng Tan from ST Engineering, Singapore, Vijay Arumbakkam of the Vaayu Group, and other officials.
The conversion of this cargo carrier by EFW, a joint venture between ST Engineering and Airbus, enables efficient transport of larger payloads. Fly Vaayu’s fleet will support the growing air freight market, using RKT as its hub to connect Asia, Africa, Europe, and the GCC/UAE. The airport’s strategic location enhances access to these regions.
Sheikh Salem bin Sultan Al-Qasimi expressed his excitement over Fly Vaayu becoming the UAE’s only dedicated freighter airline, with global operations starting from Ras Al Khaimah International Airport.
“This occasion marks a significant milestone as we welcome Fly Vaayu to their new operational base. Our partnership with Fly Vaayu demonstrates our commitment to expanding air freight services globally through Ras Al Khaimah. This achievement signifies a new chapter in the aviation legacy of our emirate, and we anticipate a future filled with promising opportunities,” he stated.
