Etihad Airways has unveiled an extensive expansion plan that includes the introduction of new routes and an increase in flight frequencies to key destinations.
The UAE’s national airline has initiated new flight services to Dusseldorf, Germany (DUS), Copenhagen, Denmark (CPH), and Osaka, Japan (KIX). Simultaneously, they have announced an expanded schedule for popular routes, including Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (KUL), and Colombo, Sri Lanka (CMB).
These new routes and enhanced frequencies are part of a comprehensive strategy to cater to customer demand, offering more opportunities to travel to Abu Dhabi and further enhancing connectivity within Etihad’s expanding global network.

Etihad’s announcement of new flight services is part of a broader plan encompassing the introduction of fresh routes and enhanced flight schedules, according to Arabian Business.
These measures have been crafted to align with the rising demand from customers seeking additional options to travel to Abu Dhabi and to bolster connectivity within Etihad’s expanding worldwide network.
Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways, said: “The new flights are the next important steps as we enhance our network delivering greater connectivity for our guests, and serving their demand for more opportunities to visit Abu Dhabi.”
“We are helping accelerate economic growth for the city by providing more travel options and seamless connections, ensuring it’s easier for guests to visit Abu Dhabi either as a destination, or as part of a stopover as they explore our growing global network.”
Etihad has already unveiled its plans to introduce nine new destinations this year, encompassing locations such as Malaga, Mykonos, Lisbon, Kolkata, St Petersburg, Dusseldorf, Copenhagen, Osaka, and Boston. Additionally, the airline has recently disclosed new routes to Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram in the Indian Subcontinent, set to commence in January 2024.
To complement these developments, Etihad has enacted various network modifications and increased flight frequencies, aimed at providing enhanced travel options and improved connectivity.
Enhancing Travel Options: Etihad Airways’ Expanded Flight Services
Notable changes include more convenient departure times for European and Asian routes, and increased frequencies to several destinations like Chennai, Colombo, Islamabad, Kochi, Kuala Lumpur, Madrid, Milan, Munich, Rome, and Phuket, offering passengers greater flexibility and connectivity.
Furthermore, the airline is introducing an additional five flights per week to Cairo, making it a triple daily service effective from January 1, 2024, strengthening the connection between Abu Dhabi and the Egyptian capital.
For Colombo, there will be seven direct flights per week, with three flights effective from December 1 and four flights effective from January 1, 2024, eventually increasing to ten flights per week from May 2024, thereby enhancing travel choices to this destination.
Starting from January 15, 2024, Kuala Lumpur will see double daily flights, and for the Maldives, there will be an additional seven flights per week, with three flights effective from December 1 and four flights effective from January 1, 2024.
