Etihad Rail, the entity responsible for developing and operating the UAE’s national railway, has reaffirmed its steady progress towards launching passenger services by 2026.
The initiative reflects the UAE’s vision to establish a safe, efficient, and fully integrated railway system.
Etihad Rail is set to revolutionise travel across the UAE with a Dubai–Abu Dhabi route that will cut journey times to under an hour.
The company noted that the network will enhance intercity connectivity while adhering to the highest global passenger service standards.
Speaking at the Global Rail 2025 exhibition and conference in Abu Dhabi, Azza Al Suwaidi, Deputy CEO of Etihad Rail Passenger Services, highlighted that the company is forging strategic partnerships to ensure seamless journeys.
This includes the development of integrated first- and last-mile solutions in collaboration with municipalities, local transport providers, and digital platforms.
Al Suwaidi stressed that Etihad Rail aims to deliver a premium passenger experience combining comfort, affordability, and reliability, with a strong focus on digital-first ticketing.
She further added that rail routes will operate independently from road networks, removing collision risks and significantly improving safety.
The network promises precise timetables and rapid journey times, including:
• 57 minutes between Abu Dhabi and Dubai
• 105 minutes between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah
• 70 minutes between Abu Dhabi and Ruwais
Onboard services will cater to 400 passengers per train, with dedicated areas for work, reading, and relaxation, alongside multiple daily trips to meet demand.
Stations are being designed as part of a fully integrated, accessible transport network, ensuring convenience for all users.
Once completed, Etihad Rail’s passenger services will connect 11 major cities and regions across the nation — stretching from Al Sila in the west to Fujairah in the east, with key stops in Ruwais, Al Mirfa, Sharjah, Al Dhaid, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai.
