Etihad Rail has officially announced that its UAE passenger train service will launch in 2026. This marks a major milestone in the country’s transportation sector, as the new high-speed train will drastically reduce travel times and boost economic growth. Once operational, the service is expected to cut the journey between Abu Dhabi and Dubai to just 30 minutes. Moreover, the project is set to contribute AED 145 billion (approximately $39.5 billion) to the UAE’s GDP over the next fifty years.
A Transformative Step for UAE Transport
The announcement came following a recent meeting hosted by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region. The meeting took place at Al Dhanna Palace and included a delegation from Etihad Rail, led by CEO H.E. Shadi Malak. During the briefing, His Highness was updated on the progress of the UAE National Railway Network and the upcoming passenger train service.
This development highlights the UAE’s commitment to advancing infrastructure and modernising transport. The new passenger service will not only enhance connectivity but also promote sustainable travel options across the country. It is one of the largest strategic transportation projects currently underway in the UAE, underscoring the government’s long-term vision for integrated national transport.
Driving Economic Growth and Connectivity
With the passenger train’s launch, Etihad Rail aims to provide a safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly alternative to road travel. Reducing the travel time between Abu Dhabi and Dubai to just half an hour will encourage greater economic activity and ease commuting for thousands of residents and visitors.
Furthermore, the AED 145 billion economic contribution over five decades will stem from increased productivity, job creation, and investments linked to the railway network. The project is expected to stimulate growth in sectors such as tourism, trade, and logistics, supporting the UAE’s diversified economic strategy.
The UAE’s railway network continues to expand, positioning the country as a regional leader in modern transportation infrastructure. As Etihad Rail prepares for its 2026 passenger service launch, it sets the stage for a new era of connectivity and sustainable development.
