Etihad Rail, in a proactive move, operated a passenger train during trial runs along the route linking Al Ghuwaifat station on the Saudi border with Al Faya station in Abu Dhabi. The initiative is intended to maintain the continuity of essential services while offering a safe and dependable transport alternative. The step was taken in line with ongoing risk assessments and in response to evolving regional developments.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to reinforce readiness and improve response capabilities amid the current regional context. It has been implemented in close coordination with the Emergencies, Crises and Disasters Management Centre Abu Dhabi (ADCMC).
The connection between the two stations holds strategic importance, strengthening geographic links between the UAE and Saudi Arabia and supporting seamless access to major ports. It enhances mobility for citizens and residents alike, while enabling authorities to activate alternative routes in accordance with approved contingency frameworks.
The operation of this service sits within a wider framework of coordinated operational and precautionary measures led jointly by the Centre and relevant entities. These steps aim to align institutional roles, reinforce logistical resilience, and uphold business continuity under multi-scenario risk management strategies.
Matar Saeed Al Nuaimi, Director-General of ADCMC, underscored that strengthening and diversifying transport capabilities is central to the wider response system. He stated that developments are overseen through structured governance models and integrated cross-sector coordination, ensuring agility, efficient resource deployment, and sustained operational effectiveness.
