In a strategic move toward a cleaner and more sustainable future, Emirates SkyCargo has announced plans to integrate hydrogen-powered trucks into its logistics fleet. This initiative, launched in partnership with Allied Transport Company, reinforces the carrier’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and improving air quality across its ground operations.
Currently under production, the first batch of hydrogen-powered trucks is set to join Emirates SkyCargo’s fleet by the first quarter of 2026.
Driving Sustainability in Air Cargo Logistics
Emirates SkyCargo’s ground fleet, consisting of over 60 trucks, plays a critical role in connecting Dubai World Central (DWC), Dubai International Airport (DXB), and various domestic locations. The introduction of hydrogen-powered vehicles represents a significant milestone in the company’s transition toward alternative fuel technologies, without compromising the capacity or efficiency of its logistics services.
The upcoming hydrogen-powered trucks will maintain the same payload capacity of up to 28 tonnes—matching that of their diesel counterparts. This ensures seamless continuity in cargo movement while drastically reducing the company’s carbon footprint. These trucks will be refuelled at two dedicated hydrogen fuelling stations located at Expo City Dubai and Al Qudra Dewa station. With a full tank, each vehicle will have an impressive range of up to 700 kilometres.
Leadership Perspectives: Pioneering a Greener Path
Commenting on the development, Badr Abbas, Divisional Senior Vice President at Emirates SkyCargo, emphasized the importance of this investment.
“The deployment of hydrogen-powered trucks into our fleet marks an exciting development in our strategy to reduce emissions in our ground operations. We will continue to explore more ways to integrate alternative fuels and technologies and scale up efforts that mitigate our environmental footprint without compromising on the high standards of service our customers expect,” he said.
The initiative also drew praise from Ali Bin Beyat, CEO of Allied Transport Company, who highlighted its alignment with the UAE’s green future ambitions.
“In partnership with Emirates SkyCargo, we are introducing hydrogen-powered trucks across UAE—especially in Dubai—to support a cleaner and sustainable logistics future. This initiative aligns with Emirates SkyCargo’s sustainability goals and supports the UAE’s vision for a greener future.”
A Step Forward for the UAE’s Sustainable Transport Vision
As global logistics companies increasingly pivot toward environmentally responsible solutions, Emirates SkyCargo’s move places Dubai on the map as a proactive leader in green freight transport. Hydrogen-powered vehicles offer the dual benefit of zero tailpipe emissions and uncompromised operational performance—making them an ideal fit for the fast-paced air cargo sector.
This deployment is not just a step forward for Emirates SkyCargo but also a contribution to the UAE’s broader push for sustainable innovation and net-zero emissions by 2050.
