Emirates is set to transfer its operations from Dubai International Airport (DXB) to the new Al Maktoum International Airport within a maximum of three days once the latter becomes operational, a senior official confirmed on Monday.
“There will be a brief period during which we will transition from here (DXB) to Al Maktoum. The infrastructure there will be entirely separate from what currently exists at DXB. The switchover could even take place overnight,” stated Adel Al Redha, Deputy President and Chief Operations Officer at Emirates Airline.
In April 2024, Dubai revealed that all operations at Dubai International would eventually be shifted to the AED 128 billion Al Maktoum Airport, once its construction is finalised over the next decade.
Dubai has already commenced the awarding of contracts for building the new airport, which is expected to accommodate 260 million passengers annually upon reaching full operational capacity.
