Emirates and Air Mauritius have renewed their long-standing partnership, reinforcing a strategic collaboration that has generated more than $900 million in annual benefits to Mauritius. The renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed in Mauritius, includes an enhanced codeshare agreement, cooperation on frequent flyer programmes, and extended cargo handling collaboration.
Deepened Alliance Enhances Connectivity and Economic Value
Originally established in 2003 and renewed in 2013, the Emirates–Air Mauritius partnership has consistently delivered tangible economic, social, and tourism-related benefits to the island nation. Under the renewed agreement, passengers will continue to enjoy seamless connectivity via select routes, convenient single-ticket journeys, and enhanced reward opportunities across both carriers’ frequent flyer programmes.
Adnan Kazim, Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer at Emirates, commented:
“Our strategic, long-standing partnership with Air Mauritius continues to deliver seamless connections, integrated travel benefits, and economic contributions. In its 23rd year, this alliance has helped strengthen the tourism sector, generate employment, and support sustainable growth in Mauritius. We are proud of what we’ve accomplished and remain committed to supporting this important destination through our expansive global network.”
The renewed codeshare agreement allows Air Mauritius to place its code on Emirates-operated flights to destinations including Cairo, Colombo, Karachi, Dammam, Jeddah, and Riyadh. In return, Emirates will place its code on Air Mauritius’ flights between Mauritius and Antananarivo. Air Mauritius will also benefit from interline access to Emirates’ entire global network, enabling wider passenger reach and connectivity.
A Milestone for Mauritius’ Tourism and Global Reach
Kremchand (Kishore) Beegoo, Chairman of Air Mauritius, hailed the renewed partnership as a milestone for the national carrier and the country’s broader tourism goals.
“This agreement deepens our strategic alignment with Emirates, enhancing our ability to serve the Mauritian tourism industry while expanding access for Mauritians to a vast international network. It is a significant step in strengthening our market presence and delivering improved services to our passengers.”
Since commencing scheduled operations to Mauritius in 2002, Emirates has carried more than 8.8 million passengers and over 126,000 tonnes of cargo, offering unrivalled connectivity to the Indian Ocean destination. The airline operates 14 weekly flights between Dubai and Mauritius using its flagship A380 aircraft—the only such service offering First Class cabins to and from the island.
Emirates’ operations have delivered approximately:
- $119 million in direct economic contributions via passenger flights,
- $264 million in tourism receipts, and
- $530 million in tourism-related spending across the Mauritian economy.
Collectively, the airline’s activities have supported the creation of 3,600 jobs, both directly and indirectly.
A Global Strategy of Collaboration and Innovation
The Emirates–Air Mauritius partnership reflects Mauritius’ broader national strategy of embracing innovation and diversification. As a country open to global collaboration, Mauritius has continued to position itself as a hub for connectivity, prosperity, and economic growth.
Emirates, which currently maintains commercial cooperation agreements with 164 interline, codeshare, and intermodal partners, extends its network reach to nearly 1,800 cities. Its renewed commitment to Mauritius not only strengthens bilateral aviation ties but also reinforces the island’s pivotal role in global tourism and trade.
This partnership renewal reaffirms the value of sustained collaboration between international carriers in driving mutual growth, national development, and expanded global access.
