Emarat Petroleum Company (Emarat) and Lootah Biofuels have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation, in line with the UAE’s efforts to develop renewable energy sources and promote sustainability.
The MoU outlines a partnership to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and pollutants associated with traditional fossil fuels, enhancing air quality and environmental sustainability. This aligns with the directives of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) and the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 strategy. It also supports the National Biofuels Policy.
Signed by Ali Khalifa Al Shamsi, CEO of Emarat, and Yousif Saeed Lootah, Founder and CEO of Lootah Biofuels, the MoU focuses on expanding the collection of used cooking oils through Emarat’s retail stations. It also includes the integration of biodiesel into their offerings, exploring sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production, and providing biodiesel to vessels in select ports.
Both companies will develop a system to collect used cooking oils at Emarat’s stations, supporting recycling and biofuel production. They will establish processes for equipment, customer relations, financial reconciliation, and other necessary steps.
Emarat will include biodiesel produced by Lootah Biofuels in its retail stations, following MoEI guidelines. The initial offering will include B5 biodiesel, with improvements in line with MoEI’s plans.
The two companies will also collaborate on creating a plant to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for the UAE and regional aviation sectors. Additionally, they will explore supplying biodiesel to vessels, supporting sustainable maritime transport.
The MoU marks a significant step towards clean energy, with both companies committed to contributing to the UAE’s sustainability goals.
