Sherif Fathy, Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, revealed that the country set a new record for inbound tourism in 2024, welcoming 15.7 million visitors from diverse markets, despite the geopolitical challenges facing the region.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Tourism after his participation in a meeting of the Senate Committee on Culture, Tourism, Antiquities, and Media, Fathy noted that the success of Egypt’s tourism sector, despite both regional and global challenges, was a result of collective efforts that must continue.
The minister outlined the current strategy and goals of his ministry for developing the tourism and antiquities sector, with a focus on highlighting Egypt’s broad capabilities, resources, and tourism offerings. He stated that these elements place Egypt among the world’s leading tourist destinations in terms of variety.
Fathy also announced plans to create an Investment Opportunities Bank to develop a unified investment map of all available tourism investment prospects, which will be promoted both within Egypt and internationally. He further projected the addition of 40,000 new hotel rooms to Egypt’s existing capacity in the near future.
Fathy stressed the importance of enhancing all tourism products and experiences, developing new tourism concepts, integrating various offerings, and executing a comprehensive marketing strategy for these products.
