Egis, a leading global firm in architecture, consulting, and engineering, has announced its significant role in the $2.7B (AED 10B) expansion of the Dubai Exhibition Centre (DEC) at Expo City Dubai.
As the principal engineering consultant, Egis will leverage its expertise for the region’s largest purpose-built exhibition venue, which will cover 1.2 kilometres and provide 180,000 square metres of exhibition space designed to host international events and enhance business tourism in Dubai.
The firm will offer a broad range of services, including architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) design. Its responsibilities will also include value engineering, sustainability measures, compliance with legal standards, and integrating Building Information Modelling (BIM) to ensure accurate project delivery.
By prioritising innovative design, Egis is helping to position Dubai as a premier destination for global events, in line with the region’s long-term economic objectives. Amer Al Farsi, Assistant Vice President of Real Estate Development at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), highlighted the project’s alignment with Dubai’s 2040 Urban Master Plan and noted that the DEC expansion will significantly advance the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) sector across three phases.
The venue will feature 180,000 square metres of indoor exhibition space distributed over 26 halls on a single level, accommodating both large-scale and multiple smaller events. This expansion will further solidify Dubai’s reputation as a leading global business and tourism hub.
Gurminder Sagoo, Country Managing Director of UAE at Egis, expressed pride in contributing to the DEC expansion, acknowledging its importance in reshaping the event landscape. He reaffirmed Egis’s commitment to delivering rapid, sustainable design solutions that reflect Dubai’s ambitions for economic growth and connectivity.
Egis aims to meet stringent sustainability standards, incorporating renewable energy systems and eco-friendly materials to secure LEED certification, thus setting a benchmark for sustainable event infrastructure in the Middle East.
