EDGE Group, a global leader in advanced defence technology, has signed a record-breaking AED9 billion (US$2.45 billion) contract with Kuwait’s Ministry of Defence. Under the deal, EDGE will supply FALAJ 3-class 62-metre missile boats to Kuwait. This is now the region’s largest naval shipbuilding export and one of the highest-value global naval contracts.
The agreement deepens UAE-Kuwait defence cooperation and highlights EDGE’s growing influence in the global defence market.
Full Turnkey Delivery with Local Expertise
As the main contractor, EDGE will manage every stage of the programme. This includes the design, construction, testing, and delivery of the vessels. It will also provide ammunition, Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), and In-Service Support (ISS), reinforcing its full-spectrum naval capability.
Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB), the UAE’s leading shipbuilder and EDGE’s naval subsidiary, will build the vessels.
Hamad Al Marar, Managing Director and CEO of EDGE, said:
“This agreement with Kuwait is hugely significant both in scale and strategic importance. It deepens long-term defence ties between our nations, brings a proven class of advanced vessels into regional service, and reinforces EDGE’s position as a trusted international partner. It also reflects the pace of industrial and engineering progress we’ve achieved in just a few years, and our ability to design, build, and deliver complex naval platforms at scale. As we enter a new phase of export-led growth, this programme marks a clear signal of global confidence in what EDGE can deliver.”
Proven Vessels with Regional Impact
The FALAJ 3-class missile boats have already been adopted by the UAE Navy. The first vessel, ALTAF, entered service in February 2025. This deployment showcases the platform’s performance in regional waters.
Under the new agreement, EDGE will tailor the vessels to meet Kuwait’s defence needs. The boats will offer advanced systems, high speed, and strong capabilities for coastal operations.
This deal confirms EDGE’s role as a reliable partner for countries seeking full-service defence solutions. It also supports the UAE’s vision of expanding defence exports and boosting industrial cooperation.
