Dubai welcomed 9.31 million international overnight visitors from January to June 2024, marking a 9 per cent increase from 8.55 million during the same period in 2023, according to the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET). This growth continues from the record-breaking 2023 when the city hosted 17.15 million international visitors.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, highlighted Dubai’s growing appeal to global travellers and the aim to enhance its offerings with memorable experiences. He credited the progress to the leadership of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, and DET’s efforts, which align with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 to strengthen Dubai’s position as a top global destination.
The increase in visitors is attributed to strategic efforts across major tourism sectors. DET’s campaigns, in collaboration with over 3,000 global partners in 80 markets, have driven significant growth in key markets. By showcasing Dubai’s unique appeal and connectivity, the city has remained a leading travel choice for both traditional and emerging markets.
Helal Saeed Almarri, Director-General of DET, noted that diversified market strategies, strong public-private partnerships, lenient visa policies, and alternative growth approaches are key to the rise in leisure and business visitors. He emphasised the ongoing commitment to sustaining this growth trajectory.
From January to June 2024, the GCC and MENA regions provided 26 per cent of visitors, with Western Europe at 20 per cent. The hotel sector showed strong performance with an average occupancy rate of 78.7 per cent and new high-profile openings, aligning with Dubai’s strategy to meet growing demand. Additionally, Dubai is advancing sustainability with initiatives like the Dubai Sustainable Tourism Stamp and aims to become the first Certified Autism Destination™ in the Eastern Hemisphere.
