In a significant step towards enhancing urban livability, Dubai has launched a major affordable housing initiative aimed at skilled professionals in both the public and private sectors. Announced by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, the move reinforces the city’s long-term vision to improve workforce living standards and support sustainable urban development under the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.
Supporting Dubai 2040 Master Plan Goals
The initiative, officially announced on Tuesday, forms a key part of Dubai’s broader strategy to offer quality housing options for its diverse, skilled workforce. The programme is being implemented in collaboration with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Dubai Municipality, and Wasl Group, combining infrastructure development, urban planning, and housing delivery expertise.
Sheikh Hamdan emphasized the social and economic rationale behind the programme. “Our goal is to offer quality housing that improves living standards for Dubai’s workforce and strengthens its status as one of the world’s best cities to live and work,” he stated.
In line with Dubai’s affordable housing policy, the programme will cater to professionals from various nationalities, ensuring inclusive development that addresses the needs of the emirate’s growing population.
Over 17,000 New Homes in Phase One Rollout
According to the Crown Prince, the first phase of the affordable housing initiative will result in the development of over 17,000 residential units. These homes will be constructed across six strategic areas: Me’aisem 1, Al Twar 1, Al Qusais Industrial 5, and Al Leyan 1, covering a total area of 1.46 million square metres.
These zones have been identified for their connectivity, access to public transport, and proximity to employment hubs—ensuring that the housing provided aligns with urban mobility and economic productivity objectives. The integration of such residential options into the city’s urban fabric is expected to have a positive ripple effect across other sectors, including transport, education, and healthcare.
This large-scale rollout underscores Dubai’s commitment to creating balanced, sustainable urban communities that accommodate diverse socio-economic groups while maintaining the city’s global competitiveness.
Dubai’s new affordable housing programme marks a strategic milestone in creating inclusive urban environments for its professional workforce. By aligning with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and collaborating across government entities, the initiative promises to elevate living standards, support long-term urban growth, and reinforce the emirate’s appeal as a leading destination for talent and investment.
