Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has opened a new water reservoir in Enkhali and integrated it into Dubai’s water distribution network.
The reservoir, which can hold 120 million imperial gallons (MIG), costs AED 287.8M ($78.3M).
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA said: “The 120 MIG reservoir in Enkhali, together with others in Lusaily, Hassyan, and Hatta, supports DEWA’s strategy to enhance water network efficiency and reliability, increase water flow, and expand reserves to meet Dubai’s growing demand and promote sustainable development.”

“Once finished, these reservoirs will increase total storage capacity to 1121.3 MIG of desalinated water, up from the current 1001.3 MIG capacity.”
These reservoirs complement the Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) project for desalinated water, which DEWA has completed its initial phase successfully.
By 2025, when fully completed, the ASR project will store up to 6,000 million imperial gallons of water, making it the world’s largest ASR system for storing potable water and enabling emergency retrieval.
Abdullah Obaidullah, Executive Vice President of Water and Civil at Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, stressed that the Enkhali reservoir meets the highest international standards.
