Dubai has announced plans for a substantial expansion of Expo City, signalling a new phase of ambitious development in the region.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has approved a master plan that outlines Expo City’s pivotal role in the emirate’s future growth and its global standing. As the site of the 2020 World Expo and COP28, Expo City will be essential for progress across multiple sectors.
The expansion establishes Expo City as a key element in Dubai’s growth strategy, offering significant investment opportunities. Its strategic location near Al Maktoum International Airport, Jebel Ali Port, and the Dubai Exhibition Centre (DEC) enhances its importance in trade, logistics, technology, tourism, and events.
This development aligns with the 2040 Urban Master Plan, which identifies Expo City as one of five major urban centres, and supports the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which aims to double the emirate’s economy by 2033. The accelerated development of the Dubai South area will further bolster the emirate’s position as a global hub.
Sheikh Mohammed stated that Expo City Dubai will attract entrepreneurs and innovators, creating a vibrant community. The master plan aims to foster sustainable living and improve the quality of life while respecting Dubai’s rich heritage.
The plan includes five districts designed with a smart transportation system and ample green spaces. Expo Hills will feature low-density housing, while Expo Fields will promote healthy living. Expo Business will host innovative companies, and Expo Downtown will offer urban density, anchored by DEC and the iconic Al Wasl dome. This expansion lays the groundwork for Dubai’s future as a leading global city.
