American Express Middle East (AEME) has announced a major expansion of its payment network in the UAE, revealing that more than 13,000 taxis in Dubai now accept American Express cards. The move enhances payment flexibility for both residents and international visitors.
The update applies across five taxi operators licensed by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA): National Taxi, Arabia Taxi, Kabi Taxi, Dubai Taxi Corporation, and Metro Taxi. This agreement marks a milestone in improving accessibility and convenience within the emirate’s public transport system.
Strengthening Card Acceptance Across the UAE
According to Graziela Martins, AEME’s Country Head UAE and Vice President Merchant Business MENA:
“Our agreement with franchise companies licensed by Dubai RTA is a major step in our commitment to increasing the number of places that accept American Express in the UAE. It also enables taxi companies to attract new American Express Card Members from the UAE and around the world, while providing Card Members with even greater payment choice and convenience when travelling by taxi.”
This initiative aligns with American Express’ strategy to broaden acceptance points for its cardholders. Since 2017, the company has tripled its global acceptance network, now exceeding 89 million merchants worldwide.
Enhancing the Customer Experience
The new agreement has been welcomed by the Dubai RTA, which views the move as part of ongoing efforts to elevate customer satisfaction in public transport services.
Khaled Al Awadhi, Director of Transportation Systems at RTA’s Public Transport Agency, commented:
“The Roads and Transport Authority welcomes initiatives that expand payment options in taxis, contributing to a more positive customer experience. Through this agreement, taxi users can now pay with their American Express cards. It is an important milestone to meet the growing demand among the public including residents and businesses, as well as visitors and tourists.”
By enabling American Express transactions across Dubai’s taxi fleet, the city continues to reinforce its image as a forward-thinking, visitor-friendly destination—offering seamless, cashless payment experiences to all.
