A technical team from Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed field evaluations of consortia shortlisted for the fourth edition of the Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport 2025, which offers a prize fund totalling USD 3 million.
These assessments were conducted in four different cities across China, using real traffic conditions to examine the performance and reliability of the autonomous technologies submitted by the contenders.
Ahmed Hashem Bahrozyan, CEO of the Public Transport Agency and Chair of the Organising Committee of the Dubai World Congress for Self-Driving Transport, highlighted the purpose of the delegation’s visit. He noted that the mission was centred around four key objectives, starting with the practical testing of self-driving vehicles developed by the participating consortia.
The trials were designed to assess the technical and operational efficiency of each system in environments that simulate actual road scenarios, ensuring they align with the competition’s criteria and international safety benchmarks, according to a statement from the Dubai Media Office.
The second objective was to gain first-hand understanding of the technological capabilities of each entrant. The RTA team visited the companies’ facilities, including their offices, factories, and control centres, to observe their infrastructure, support mechanisms, and internal workflows.
Another critical goal of the visit was to establish long-term strategic relationships and build mutual trust with the participating companies. These partnerships are expected to play a vital role in advancing Dubai’s smart mobility ambitions.
