The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has completed traffic enhancements on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, including the expansion of Exit 55 leading to Al Rebat Street.
The 600-metre project extended the traffic overlap distance and added a new lane, increasing the total to three lanes.
This expansion is designed to boost the capacity of the road network and enhance traffic safety in Dubai.
The improvements are anticipated to increase the exit’s capacity from 3,000 to 4,500 vehicles per hour, marking a 50 percent rise.
Travel time from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Al Rebat Street towards Business Bay Crossing is expected to reduce from 10 minutes to 4 minutes, a 60 percent decrease.
This project is part of RTA’s 2024 improvement plans, covering 45 locations across Dubai. The authority states these enhancements “support Dubai’s sustainable growth and enhance the happiness and well-being of residents, aiming to rank Dubai as the best city to live in.”
The Authority selects roads for improvement based on four criteria: traffic studies, control centres, public suggestions, and field observations by RTA teams.
The authority states it is “committed to the continuous development and improvement of Dubai’s road network and regularly updates traffic solutions.”
