Dubai’s transport network successfully moved more than 2.8 million passengers during the New Year’s Eve 2026 festivities, reflecting a significant year-on-year increase as the city managed large crowds across multiple celebration zones.
According to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the combined usage of public transport, taxis, e-hailing services and shared mobility options reached 2,836,859 passengers, representing a 13 per cent rise over last year’s 2,502,474 journeys.
This growth was achieved through the execution of an integrated traffic and operational strategy encompassing traffic regulation and temporary road closures across the emirate.
The plan was implemented in close collaboration with the Dubai Event Security Committee and other relevant authorities and strategic partners.
These results demonstrate the robustness and efficiency of Dubai’s transport system in maintaining smooth mobility and public safety, reinforcing the city’s reputation as a premier destination capable of handling major events to international standards.
Here’s how ridership was distributed across transport modes: the Metro’s Red and Green Lines carried 1,249,636 passengers; the Dubai Tram saw 58,052 users; public buses and bus-on-demand services transported 503,264 riders; taxis accounted for 661,538 journeys; marine transport conveyed 76,745 passengers; e-hailing services served 286,135 users; and shared mobility recorded 1,489 trips.
The RTA reaffirmed that the approved traffic and operational plan was instrumental in ensuring the safe and smooth movement of the public to key celebration sites, underlining the value of integrated coordination with stakeholders across Dubai.
