Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has achieved its highest-ever proceeds from a number plate auction, raising close to AED109m (around USD30m), led by the sale of the distinctive plate BB12 for AED9.66m (USD2.6m).
The record-breaking outcome was delivered at RTA’s 120th open auction, held on 27 December, marking the strongest performance since the authority began offering premium vehicle plates through public bidding.
BB12 emerged as the most valuable plate of the event, followed by AA25, which sold for AED8.04m, BB30 at AED6.74m, and CC100, which attracted a final bid of AED4.21m.
According to the RTA, the strong results highlight the success of its auction model, which is designed to ensure transparency, neutrality and equal access for bidders seeking distinctive number plates with symbolic or personal value.
The auction featured 90 premium plates, including two-, three-, four- and five-digit numbers across multiple series such as AA, BB, CC, K, N, O, R, T, U, V, W, X, Y and Z.
Participants were required to pay a 5 per cent VAT on purchases and meet eligibility criteria, including holding a Dubai traffic file, submitting a AED25,000 security cheque to the RTA, and paying a non-refundable participation fee of AED120.
To facilitate wider participation, the RTA also enabled bidders to complete payments using credit cards through its official website.
