Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has initiated a series of rapid traffic improvement measures across eight strategic locations in the emirate, forming part of a broader 2026 mobility plan that encompasses more than 45 targeted upgrades.
The initiative is designed to strengthen the efficiency of the road network, ease traffic movement and enhance safety standards for motorists and pedestrians alike. The measures respond to Dubai’s continued urban expansion, population growth and the steady rise in vehicle density across the city.
The upgrades will be implemented along key corridors, including Emirates Road from Sharjah towards Wadi Al Amardi Street, Umm Amara Street connecting Sheikh Zayed Road to Al Wasl Street, Jebel Ali–Lehbab Street, the area between Sama Al Jaddaf and Al Jaddaf Waterfront near Al Jaddaf Metro Station, Al Na’ayat Street in Al Barsha 1, the vicinity of Al Maktoum School in Al Satwa, the intersection of Al Ittihad and Al Quds Streets, and Sheikh Rashid Street near the Grand Hyatt Dubai towards Bur Dubai.
Upon completion, the projects are expected to deliver tangible improvements in traffic performance across these areas.
The authority anticipates a reduction in congestion and travel times ranging between 15 per cent and 30 per cent, contributing to smoother daily commutes.
The scope of work includes widening selected roads from a single lane to two lanes, converting roundabouts into signal-controlled intersections, introducing new connections to improve access between major routes and surrounding residential and commercial zones, and upgrading at-grade junctions.
Additional parking spaces will be created near schools and key facilities, alongside broader traffic safety enhancements.
