Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has commenced the study and design phase for Phase II of its Intelligent Traffic Systems Project. This expansion aims to bolster Dubai’s transportation infrastructure through advanced technologies, enhancing management of the road network and optimizing traffic flow.
Phase II will extend the coverage of the main road network monitored by Intelligent Traffic Systems to 100%, up from the current 60%, encompassing an additional 230 kilometers. This initiative is slated for completion by 2026 under the leadership of Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at RTA.
Key enhancements include the deployment of new Variable Message Signs (VMS) and smart applications, facilitating real-time information dissemination and improving incident response times. The project integrates modern technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, and IoT to support smart mobility solutions and pave the way for future transport innovations.
The initial phase’s success, marked by increased incident monitoring efficiency, reduced response times, and shorter journey durations, underscores Dubai’s commitment to becoming a global leader in intelligent transport systems.
