In a significant move to upgrade its operational strategy, Dubai Police has announced the adoption of a new zoning system that will classify the emirate into urban and rural areas. This restructuring is part of a broader effort to enhance public safety, optimise resource allocation, and integrate advanced smart technology and AI-driven systems into its policing operations.
The initiative supports the goals outlined in the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, and aims to increase security coverage, reduce emergency response times, and tailor police services based on geographic and demographic needs. The announcement was made during Dubai Police’s first-quarter performance review, chaired by Expert Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs, along with senior officers from the General Department of Operations.
Aligning Security Strategy with Urban Planning Vision
Major General Al Mansouri emphasised the operational importance of the new zoning model, stating that the initiative would significantly bolster Dubai Police’s readiness to address emergencies and deploy patrol units with greater efficiency.
“The distinction between urban and rural zones allows us to deploy resources more intelligently,” said Al Mansouri. “It strengthens our ability to address unique challenges across different regions of the emirate, be it in traffic control, community service, or emergency response, all while supporting our strategic vision to maintain Dubai as one of the world’s safest cities.”
He noted that this zoning reform is not only a security upgrade, but also an alignment of law enforcement strategy with Dubai’s urban development framework—ensuring that safety measures evolve in tandem with the city’s rapid growth and transformation.
Boosting Operational Efficiency with Smart Policing
Brigadier Turki bin Faris, another senior official involved in the initiative, added that the strategic zoning will empower the police force to deliver more responsive and innovation-led services.
“This urban-rural zoning model will significantly improve our operational efficiency and elevate our emergency response capabilities,” he said. “It provides a foundation for introducing next-generation policing tools, including AI integration, smart monitoring, and predictive analytics.”
By clearly demarcating the emirate into urban and rural sectors, Dubai Police will be able to enhance patrol routes, allocate human resources according to specific area needs, and accelerate the implementation of AI-powered public safety solutions.
A Future-Ready Security Blueprint
The introduction of this zoning system reflects Dubai Police’s commitment to proactive governance and technological innovation, essential pillars of the emirate’s broader smart city goals. As Dubai continues to expand its urban footprint while preserving rural heritage and ecological zones, such a strategy ensures that security measures remain adaptive and inclusive of all communities.
With Dubai rapidly emerging as a global model for safe, intelligent, and sustainable urban development, the police force’s realignment under this new operational framework sets a benchmark for future-forward law enforcement in the region.
