Dubai has been recognised as the world’s cleanest city for the sixth consecutive year under the Global Power City Index, compiled by the Institute for Urban Strategies at the Mori Memorial Foundation in Japan.
The recognition reflects the emirate’s sustained commitment to maintaining a high standard of urban cleanliness and environmental quality, reinforcing its reputation as a global destination known for efficiency, sustainability and quality of life.
Dubai achieved a perfect 100 per cent score in the cleanliness indicator within the Environment category of the index, placing it ahead of other major global cities evaluated in the study.
The Global Power City Index assesses cities across six core categories, including economy, research and development, cultural interaction, liveability, environment and accessibility, using dozens of international performance indicators.
Dubai Municipality’s ongoing initiatives to enhance environmental standards and public hygiene have contributed significantly to this achievement. These include extensive sanitation programmes, well-maintained public spaces and sustainable urban management practices.
Efforts to preserve the city’s visual appeal and cleanliness are also supported by a specialised committee responsible for monitoring Dubai’s urban appearance and ensuring high standards across public infrastructure and community areas.
The emirate’s strategy also aligns with the Dubai Integrated Waste Management Strategy 2041, which aims to minimise waste generation, divert waste away from landfills and promote a circular economy.
Round-the-clock cleaning operations are supported by a wide network of specialised vehicles, equipment and thousands of workers responsible for maintaining sanitation standards across the city.
This integrated system covers roads, residential communities, commercial districts, beaches, industrial zones and desert areas, ensuring consistent cleanliness standards throughout the emirate.
