In line with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s directives to develop future-ready infrastructure, Dubai Municipality has awarded AED 1.439 billion in contracts for four major projects under the ‘Tasreef’ initiative. These projects focus on the development, rehabilitation, and expansion of Dubai’s stormwater drainage network, furthering the emirate’s commitment to sustainable, climate-resilient infrastructure.
Dubai’s Strategic Infrastructure Projects
These contracts are part of Dubai’s efforts to strengthen its position as a global leader in infrastructure readiness. The projects will serve key areas such as Nad Al Hamar, Dubai International Airport, Al Garhoud, Al Rashidiya, and Jumeirah.
The work aims to provide sustainable solutions to mitigate flooding risks, enhance network efficiency, and improve service quality. Over 36 kilometres of new drainage lines will connect to the main Tasreef tunnel, significantly boosting drainage capacity and reducing operating costs.
His Excellency Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Acting Director General of Dubai Municipality, highlighted that these projects are crucial milestones in the Tasreef initiative. They will increase the drainage system’s discharge capacity by 700% over the next 100 years, reinforcing Dubai’s infrastructure leadership.
The AED 30 billion Tasreef project is the largest of its kind in Dubai and is designed to be scalable over the next century. It aims to reduce construction and maintenance costs by 20%, while extending the lifespan of the city’s stormwater infrastructure.
