Dubai has expanded access to its e-scooter riding permit service, allowing users to complete the entire application process online through official smart platforms, reinforcing the emirate’s broader digital transformation drive.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said the e-scooter permit application is now available across all its official channels, after previously being limited to the RTA website.
The service has been added to both the RTA Dubai app and the Dubai Now app, removing the need for customers to visit physical service centres.
This step supports the RTA’s efforts to advance Dubai’s vision of becoming one of the world’s smartest cities, while accelerating digital adoption and making services more accessible, efficient and time-saving for users.
Applying for the e-scooter riding permit through the RTA Dubai app follows a simple, user-friendly process. Applicants are required to complete an online theoretical test covering essential riding rules, safety requirements and best practices.
After successfully passing the test, applicants are authorised to ride e-scooters in areas and streets designated by the RTA, with the permit issued electronically through the authority’s smart channels.
The RTA said the service forms part of a wider package of initiatives aimed at regulating e-scooter usage, raising traffic awareness and enhancing safety for all road users.
The authority confirmed that the permit application will continue to be available on its official website, giving customers flexibility to choose their preferred channel.
RTA also urged e-scooter users who do not qualify for exemptions to obtain the required permit before riding in authorised areas and to comply fully with all relevant laws, regulations and safety instructions.
