Dubai has introduced a significant change in the process for granting road sign permits, enabling prominent tourist attractions, healthcare facilities, and transport hubs to request the installation of directional road signs guiding traffic to their locations.
Applicants can now submit their requests online, and approvals will be granted after on-site assessments by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
This initiative is part of the RTA’s ongoing digital transformation efforts, which aim to provide convenient and intelligent services accessible to customers at all times.
Requestors can access the RTA’s website to submit applications for supplementary information sign permits, according to Arabian Business.
This system is now integrated with various other systems, including financial and electronic mapping systems, as well as the company licensing systems of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce.
Regulated Road Sign Permits for Key Dubai Destinations
These permits are issued to entities such as healthcare and emergency facilities, transportation centers, public venues, and major tourist destinations, provided they meet the specified conditions outlined in the Executive Council Resolution (23) of 2013 No. (3) of 2021, which regulates the issuance of supplementary information signs on Dubai roads.
The implementation of this system enhances operational efficiency, reduces paper usage, and streamlines procedures for all customers, reflecting the RTA’s commitment to elevating service standards and adhering to best practices to maximize customer satisfaction.
Customers can apply for and obtain permits via the RTA’s website, eliminating the need for paper-based documentation. This service is available 24/7, providing customers with the flexibility to access it at their convenience, without the need to visit RTA service centers.
Once the automated payment is completed, the permit is issued electronically, and the system sends notifications to customers via mobile phones and emails to keep them informed about the status of their applications.
This new service also allows users to renew, cancel, or inquire about the status of their permits. The design, manufacturing, installation, maintenance, and removal of supplementary signs must be overseen by an RTA-approved or appointed contractor, who must provide installation plans after conducting field studies of the sign locations.
