Dubai Customs logged nearly 22 million transactions in the first nine months of this year, indicating a 13% rise from the 19 million customs transactions recorded during the same period last year.
In a statement released on Sunday, Dubai Customs highlighted that this growth aligns with the targets outlined in the city’s D33 agenda.
The agenda aims to double foreign trade and establish new trade routes, connecting Dubai with an additional 400 cities globally, with the overarching goal of positioning Dubai as one of the top four global financial hubs.
Dubai Customs Sees 13.2% Growth in Customs Declarations
Breaking down the data, Dubai Customs processed about 18.8 million customs declarations by the end of Q3 2023, compared to 16.6 million declarations during the same period last year, reflecting a growth of 13.2%. Customs declarations constituted 87% of these total customs transactions, according to Gulf Business.
The department attributes its success to the implementation of digital programs, such as the Mirsal 2 system, which can now handle around 70,000 customs declarations in a single day.
Another initiative is the “Cargo Status Tracking” project, aiming to provide clients with real-time monitoring and comprehensive visibility into the customs clearance process across Dubai’s borders, intending to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and empower customers.
Dubai recently secured the fifth position among the world’s top 20 international centres for commercial maritime shipping, according to the 2023 Xinhua-Baltic International Shipping Centre Development Index Report. The report cited Dubai’s “business-oriented” attitude, its status as a “world-class maritime hub,” and its easily accessible geographical position as key factors contributing to its high ranking.
