Dubai, UAE – June X, 2024 – Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has intensified its crackdown on illegal passenger transport, resulting in the impounding of over 220 vehicles in recent operations. Fines of up to Dh30,000 (approximately $8,167 USD) for individuals and Dh50,000 (approximately $13,612 USD) for companies were levied against those caught violating regulations.
Maintaining Order and Safety
The move aims to ensure the safety of passengers and maintain order in Dubai’s transportation system. Unlicensed vehicles operating as taxis pose a safety risk and disrupt the operations of legitimate taxi companies.
“We issued violations for passenger transport on unlicensed vehicles and promoting these services,” the RTA stated in a press release.
Targeted Operations
The impounding operations focused on strategic locations, including Dubai International Airport (DXB) terminals, the Hatta area, and Jebel Ali. Inspectors from the RTA and the General Department of Airport Security collaborated to identify and apprehend violators around the airport.
Dubai offers a well-developed public transportation network with a variety of safe and affordable options, including taxis, metros, buses, and trams. Passengers are encouraged to use these authorized services for their transportation needs.
Continued Vigilance
The RTA’s crackdown on illegal passenger transport is expected to continue. The authority remains committed to ensuring a safe and efficient transportation system for all residents and visitors in Dubai.
