185,000 Trees Planted Across Dubai in 2023 as Major Beautification Projects Conclude
Dubai Municipality has announced the completion of seven large-scale green beautification projects along Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road, in alignment with directives from Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
Valued at AED 245 million ($66 million), the initiative transformed 1.4 million square metres with the planting of 2.5 million flowers and ornamental plants and the addition of 6,500 trees. These enhancements are supported by water-efficient, smart irrigation systems to promote sustainable greenery.
Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality, highlighted that these projects are part of the “Green Dubai Project” vision, emphasizing their role in expanding Dubai’s greenery and elevating the city’s visual appeal. “We are dedicated to developing green infrastructure and creating a comfortable, sustainable environment for residents and visitors by optimizing water resources and expanding green spaces,” Al Hajri remarked.
The Sheikh Zayed Road segment spans 843,000 square metres across four major intersections, featuring 1.5 million flowers, 3,500 trees, and significant soil mulching. At Al Khail Street, green upgrades cover 625,000 square metres and include 1 million flowers, 3,000 trees, and over 143,000 square metres of soil mulch.
In 2023 alone, Dubai Municipality planted over 185,000 trees, increasing the city’s green spaces to 234 hectares from 170 hectares in 2022. These efforts reflect Dubai’s commitment to sustainability, biodiversity, and enhancing residents’ quality of life.
