Dubai International Airport (DXB) has resumed its usual flight operations since yesterday, with approximately 1,400 flight movements per day, according to Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports.
The roads in and around the airport are completely clear of water accumulation, ensuring smooth travel.
Griffiths stated, “Our workforce, logistics, and facilities are back to normal operations.”
During the storm and its aftermath, a total of 2,155 flights were cancelled and 115 were diverted, Griffiths mentioned.
Following the storm, Dubai Airports acknowledged that the recovery process would take time.
Thousands of aviation sector employees collaborated tirelessly to restore operations and assist passengers at both DXB and Dubai World Central (DWC).
Griffiths praised the collective effort, stating, “Getting the airport operational again was a significant achievement.”
Thirty-one flights were redirected to DWC, and by April 19, all passengers at the airport had successfully completed their travel plans.
Stranded passengers were provided assistance, with 75,000 food packs distributed across DXB and DWC.
Despite the progress, challenges persist, particularly in clearing the backlog of baggage.
Griffiths assured, “We are working closely with our service partners, but acknowledge there is still work to be done. We appreciate our guests’ patience as we continue to address this.”
Reflecting on the challenging weather event, Griffiths expressed gratitude to the dedicated efforts of staff and partners in maintaining operations and assisting passengers.
As operations return to normal, passengers are advised to arrive at the terminal three hours prior to departure to avoid congestion and ensure smooth travel.
