Dubai has achieved a remarkable 90% reduction in traffic-related fatalities over the past 18 years, according to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Police. This achievement is attributed to strong inter-agency coordination and the successful execution of the Dubai Traffic Safety Strategy 2022–2026.
During a recent review meeting, officials evaluated road safety performance and enforcement measures. Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, noted that ongoing awareness campaigns have reached over 255,000 individuals and generated more than 117 million video views, significantly boosting public compliance.
Traffic Violations Tracked, Fatalities Drop in 2024
Enforcement efforts in 2024 led to the recording of more than 145,000 delivery motorcycle violations, 40,000 bicycle and e-scooter infractions, and 60,000 pedestrian offences. Traffic deaths have dropped from 21.7 per 100,000 people in 2007 to 1.8 in 2024, while pedestrian fatalities declined from 9.5 to 0.3.
To support safer mobility, authorities upgraded 23 high-risk sites, installed 54 raised pedestrian crossings, and conducted over 85 workshops for 15,000 delivery riders. Cycling trips increased to 46.6 million, while e-scooter usage rose to 32.3 million in 2024.
In response, the RTA announced the creation of a Personal Mobility Monitoring Unit. It also unveiled its Roads and Transport Plan 2030, built on four pillars: road infrastructure development, progressive transport policy, public transport expansion, and advanced traffic management systems. Projects include improvements to key corridors and Phase 2 of the Intelligent Traffic Systems project, aiming for full citywide network coverage.
