Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) reported that public transport and shared mobility options in Dubai—including Metro, Tram, buses, marine transport, Taxis, and e-hail vehicles—served approximately 361.2 million users in the first half of 2024. This reflects a 6 per cent increase from the 340.5 million users recorded during the same period in 2023. The average daily ridership rose to 1.98 million from 1.88 million in 2023.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the RTA, highlighted that the Dubai Metro and taxis were the most popular modes, accounting for 37 per cent and 27 per cent of users, respectively, while buses served 24.5 per cent. January 2024 saw the highest monthly usage at 65 million.
Al Tayer noted that this growth is indicative of Dubai’s economic progress and the success of the RTA’s initiatives to encourage public transport usage. He stated that Dubai’s integrated transport system has significantly shifted public attitudes toward using public transport.
The Dubai Metro’s Red and Green Lines transported 133 million passengers in the first half of 2024, with BurJuman and Union stations being the busiest. On the Red Line, Al Rigga station saw the most users, followed by Mall of the Emirates and Business Bay. On the Green Line, Sharaf DG, Baniyas, and Stadium stations had the highest numbers.
Dubai Tram carried 4.5 million passengers, buses served 89.2 million, and marine transport saw 9.7 million users. Shared mobility services transported 27.8 million passengers, while taxis carried 97 million during this period.
Al Tayer emphasised that the RTA’s plans aim to increase the share of public and shared transport journeys to 25 per cent by 2030, up from 20.9 per cent in 2023.
