DP World’s $400M investment has increased the South Terminal’s container handling capacity at the Port of Callao by 80%, making it a leading port in South America.
The expansion of Bicentennial Pier near Lima raises the annual handling capacity from 1.5 million to 2.7 million TEUs and enlarges the container yard to 40 hectares.
Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World, stated, “The Bicentennial Pier project underscores our commitment to regional economic growth and positions Callao as a premier logistics hub.”
Carlos Merino, CEO of DP World in Peru and Ecuador, added, “This expansion boosts our capacity and operational efficiency, handling over 90% of Peru’s containerized cargo.”
DP World has introduced advanced electric-powered equipment, including 15 cranes and 20 internal transport vehicles, making Callao the world’s first port terminal with such a large electric fleet.
The terminal also features Latin America’s first electric truck charging station, a 2-megawatt facility expected to reduce CO2 emissions by over 2,000 tonnes annually.
This development positions the Port of Callao as a key gateway for global trade on South America’s west coast and a leading logistics hub.
