DP World has introduced an innovative electric freight solution at Jebel Ali Port in partnership with Einride, aiming to reduce carbon emissions from terminal operations.
The initial phase of the electric fleet, operating 24/7, is expected to transport over 204,000 twenty-foot containers annually, promoting DP World’s move towards sustainable logistics.
Launched through a partnership formed in May 2024, the initiative focuses on electrifying inter-terminal container transport at Jebel Ali Port, the largest seaport in the Middle East. It aligns with DP World’s broader strategy of electrifying its internal terminal vehicles (ITVs) and collaborating with partners to cut emissions.
The project aims to reduce 14,600 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) annually, contributing to DP World’s science-based targets (SBTi) and its vision of making global trade more efficient and eco-friendly.
Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO and Managing Director of DP World GCC, said, “Decarbonising logistics is a key priority for DP World. We are actively electrifying our operations, incorporating AI-driven solutions, and working closely with partners like Einride to achieve our net-zero targets.”
The electric fleet rollout, incorporating Einride’s electric vehicles, charging infrastructure, and AI-powered Saga operating system, will occur in phases.
