Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) plans to double the number of green fast and ultra-fast charging stations for Electric Vehicles (EVs) in the emirate by the end of next year.
Currently, Dubai has 390 various types of stations (fast, ultra-fast) in operation. Majid Hilal Al Hazami, DEWA’s Director of Smart Grid Projects Management, informed Emirates News Agency (WAM) that this figure will increase to 1,000 stations by the conclusion of 2025.
Al Hazami clarified that fast and ultra-fast chargers are situated at petrol stations, capable of charging a vehicle’s battery to around 80 per cent within 20 to 40 minutes. Medium-speed chargers, typically found in shopping malls, parks, and office areas, require about two to four hours to charge a battery to 80 per cent.
DEWA unveiled the Green Charger initiative in 2014 and has since expanded its numbers steadily over the years.
